Vision & Values
Our vision at Christchurch is simple: to be true to our name! To be a church that is defined by Christ, captivated by Christ, and radiating Christ. And to play our full part in seeing the people of Sandfields, Swansea and Wales discover the Good News God revealed in Christ.
To pursue this vision we have 4 core values that we believe are essential to it:
-
Devoted to Prayer - not simply "committed" to prayer, but "devoted" to prayer as the early church was.
-
Growing in Grace - pursuing greater Christlikeness throughout our lives, and seeking to imitate all His graces including His compassion, kindness, forgiveness, patience and generosity.
-
Loving the Lost - always seeking to reveal God's kingdom to others and introduce them to the Saviour; and resisting the temptation to become merely a "holy huddle" or a Christian club.
-
Blessing the City - seeking the good, prosperity and spiritual health of the city of Swansea, and introducing people to the values and culture of God's kingdom in as many ways as we can.
We also believe God has called us to be a
generous church - imitating God's own generosity and proving His faithfulness in provision. Our dream is to, one day, be regularly giving away 20% of our income to support gospel mission and ministry to the poor elsewhere, proving that God can simultaneously meet our own needs and enable us to be lavishly generous to others, according to His glorious riches in Christ. We are still on our journey towards that goal, but the beginning has been encouraging and exciting. And perhaps God is calling you to help us get a step closer?!
We also have 9 hallmarks of Christchurch culture that we are working hard to cultivate, and which all our leaders and officers are expected to embrace and cultivate:
-
HONOUR - Treating people with dignity and respect as dearly loved children of God; and speaking well of them behind their back!
-
THANKFULNESS - Saying “Thank you” a lot, to God and to others.
-
ENCOURAGEMENT - Building others up by what we say and how we say it; and taking care not to discourage people.
-
GRACE - Forgiving others as the Lord has forgiven us; being gentle in our thoughts, words, tone and attitude.
-
PEACE - Seeking the best in all our relationships; being calm and patient in tone, quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger and slow to accuse.
-
HUMILITY - Always knowing I am a work in progress; being willing to change and say sorry; being open to feedback without getting angry or defensive.
-
FAITH - Believing that God is faithful to all His promises, and spurring each other on to take God at His word
-
VIGILANCE - Working hard to create and maintain a peaceful, accessible and safe church environment for all, especially children and vulnerable adults.
-
FUN - Playing my full part in making Christchurch a fun place to be for everyone!
